HIV BENEFIT FUN-WALK TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY LIVING

Members of the community took part in a 5.8 km fun walk organised by the Fezile Dabi District Municipality last Saturday ahead of the annual HIV benefit concert to be held at Abraham’s Rust Resort in Sasolburg on December 1.
They were joined by the speaker of the district municipality council, Sizwe Mbalo and the newly appointed municipal manager, Lindi Molibeli.

Mbalo encouraged the people to walk and keep healthy. He said walking is the best exercise recommended by experts.

“I would like to thank you for taking part in this event; we hope also to see you on December 1 at Abrahams Rust where we will be presenting to you the best concert ever.

“I wish to applaud our municipality for organising the concert without necessarily looking at making profits. This would not happen if it wasn’t for the dedication of the team that works hard to guarantee best musical event ever,” said Mbalo.

Organisers said it was the second time they were holding the fun walk. The first one was held last year.

Municipal spokesperson, Thomas Nopeche, said the rationale behind the event was to encourage people to improve their lifestyle.

“People are not aware that walking is the best exercise recommended to most of us by different health practitioners. Even people living with HIV and those affected by it are advised to start walking rather than taking taxis.”
Community member, Nthabiseng Mokotjo, was thrilled to have completed the race in less than an hour.

“I am happy that I made it to the finish line; it was hard but like everyone I wanted to finish it and that is precisely what I did,” said Mokotjo.
