Cheetahs well prepared for season well prepared

In fine form … The Toyota Cheetahs emerged victorious after their first pre-season fixture against the Southern Kings in East London last weekend.
The recent victory of the Toyota Cheetahs over the Southern Kings shows the progress the Free State rugby outfit is making in the run-up to the start of the Vodacom Super Rugby season, which will commence later
this month.
This well-contested pre-season fixture took place in East London last weekend.
The Kings, a combination of the Border Bulldogs and South Western District Eagles, initially proved to be a handful for the Cheetahs, holding onto a 20-14 lead until halftime. However, the Cheetahs came back to dominate the second half and won the match by 33 points to the Kings’ 20.
Rocco Jansen, Piet van Zyl, Robert Ebersohn, Sias Ebersohn, and Willie le Roux scored the points for the Free State team.
Following their victory in East London, the Cheetahs are in Cape Town ahead of the warm-up clash against the DHL Stormers in the DHL pre-season series fixture which will take place tomorrow.  The fixture will set the pace at which the Cheetahs’ Super Rugby season is expected to kick off.
In the first Super Rugby fixture the Toyota Cheetahs will face the current Currie Cup champions, the MTN Lions, on their home ground in Johannesburg on February 24.
The Stormers walloped the Lions 28-6 in the first fixture of the DHL series, with the Lions only managing to score two penalties during the match.
The match between the Cheetahs and the Stormers forms an important part in both the teams’ preparation for the tough showdowns that Super Rugby will surely bring.
