Moshwadiba said this when addressing APC members at a memorial lecture in honour of the former freedom fighter and founder of the anti-apartheid Pan African Congress (PAC) held recently. Sobukwe started his politics and struggle for justice, freedom and unity in the ANC during his youth when he was a leader of the student representative council at Fort Hare University. He was…

State concerned Frederiksen made conduct with state witness in prison In yet another twist to the long drawn case of Peter Frederiksen who is accused of slicing-off female genitalia in illegal operations at his Bloemfontein home, the Danish national yesterday told the Free State High Court that he will be conducting his own defence during trial because he cannot afford a lawyer. In what has almost become familiar routine, Frederiksen, 65, showed up at court without a lawyer after spurning the state funded Legal Aid which agreed to represent him late last year. Yesterday’s appearance was the second one inside…

Home is best for Vodacom profits

Vodacom continued to find joy in home comforts after revenue from the rest of its Africa operations slumped 8.2 percent to R4.2 billion for the quarter ended December, while the South African business recorded a 5.5 percent revenue growth to R13.4 billion. The company said the strong surge in its local operations was driven mainly by strong data revenue growth of 22 percent. Tribunal reserves judgment in Ferro case

Feb 3, 2017

Ferro South Africa and one of its divisions have applied to the Competition Tribunal for the modification or waiving of conditions imposed on it during a merger, because the theft of confidential information by a former employee had undermined the purpose of these conditions. The tribunal in August 2014 approved the merger between Ferro and Arkema, subject to Ferro divesting Arkema’s business related to the manufacture and sale of unsaturated polyester resins (UPR). Ferro in November 2014 agreed to sell the UPR business to Atlin Chemicals. NCS Resins, a subsidiary of Ferro, launched an application in the Eastern Cape High…

The man with two hearts

Dec 15, 2016

When a man was fitted with a new heart, his mind changed in unusual ways. Why? The answer reveals a surprising truth about all our bodies, says David Robson: Every second or so, Carlos would feel a small “bump” hitting his tummy. It was the beating of his “second heart”. The small mechanical pump was meant to relieve the burden of his failing cardiac muscles, but Carlos (not his real name) disliked the sensation. The beat of the machine seemed to replace his pulse, a sensation that warped his body image: as the device throbbed above his navel, Carlos had…

Beautiful game under siege

It’s wrong for fans to continuing blaming club bosses for team’s poor performances when the people who are supposed to be doing the job are not doing it.  There’s something very wrong with the beautiful game which is under siege from hooliganism displayed by the very same people that claim to love and respect the game. Yes, it’s true it’s very painful to see one’s team losing consecutive matches or going through a long losing period. But we cannot say that is justification for fans to resort to pitch invasions or destruction of stadiums. Even though some may defend this…
