Radio personality comments on his alleged gay relationship with DJ Prince Kaybee

Popular South African choreographer and radio personality Somizi Mhlongo has described media reports of him dating Prince Kaybee as malicious and irresponsible.

Somizi’s reaction follows suggestions that he and award winning DJ Prince Kaybee were romantically involved. The rumours were sparked by the two pictures posted on instagram of the duo while at the OR Tambo airport last Saturday.

The tag-line in one of the pictures posted on Somizi’s instagram read: “Delayed flight. I don’t mind. For obvious reasons. I’m Charlotte @princekaybee_sa”

A minute later Somizi posted the second picture of him relaxing on Prince Kabybee’s arm which saw some media houses immediately speculating that the two were involved.

Somizi whose gay status stated in his interview on Real Talk with Anele stated that he was engaged and would be getting married soon. However he did not mention the name of his partner, saying “People will know in due course.”

“These are nothing but malicious reports and bother on irresponsible reporting,” said Somizi in a telephonic interview with The Weekly on Monday afternoon.

“How do you conclude that someone is gay just by taking a picture with me and most importantly, how do you even get to a point of saying we’re dating just because of a picture,” he asked, explaining further that these were kind of irresponsible reports that ruin people’s life.

He added that although he could care less what other people think about his sexuality, the fact that Kaybeen was now labelled gay because of the two pictures they took was totally not fair.
“It’s a shame really how petty and irresponsible some media houses are. It’s absolutely not fair on Kaybee,” Somizi said.

Some fans insisted on various social platforms that they’ve suspected Kaybee, whose real name is Kabelo Motsami, was gay.

Lesego Nthusi wrote on Facebook, “I’ve always suspected that Kabelo was gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with being gay.”

Another fan, Thato Sediko wrote: “What a nice couple. Why were you guys keeping it a secret mara? You make a cute couple.”

Others disputed the allegations, also taking to social media to denounce suggestions their favourite spin-master was gay. Mofokeng Mdeza Desmond wrote; “I haven’t noticed any sign of gay from you bro since I’ve known you.”

Unity Nomonde Ndelaphi said, “I don’t even think you need to justify yourself to anyone because in life people will always talk, regardless of what you say. You know who you are and where you’re going in life the rest will always remain “ hear say “. Just do you.”

Kaybee could also not take it laying low, saying, “I was going to let this go but it’s getting out of hand now. It’s been a rough year for me with regards to media. A lot of stories have been fabricated. Some say I got arrested, and then it was the Botshabelo attack that was entertained by uninformed people.”

He noted, “Also read a story that I’m arrogant and refuse to take pictures with fans. Funny enough I read these on newspapers without even a call from either sources that publish them. For the record, Somizi is a friend; he took this specific picture when we were at the airport.”

Kaybee later refuted that he was gay, adding that “Not that I need to explain myself to anyone but I am not gay.”
