ANC hails Ntombela appointment

the-weekly-sl6

theweekly.coThe ANC Free State has welcomed the appointment of provincial women’s league leader Sisi Ntombela into the party’s national working committee (NWC), saying her elevation was in line with its commitment to cultivating cadres capable of serving the party at all levels including national.

Provincial party spokesperson Thabo Meeko said the inclusion of Ntombela in the NWC was going to increase the number of voices in the key party organ speaking on behalf of the poor and marginalised in society.
Ntombela, who was named into the NWC at a party national executive committee (NEC) meeting held last weekend, has gained experience working with the needy and other less fortunate sections of society from her job as MEC for social development in the provincial government.

“The province has been working hard in ensuring that it produces leaders capable of playing a role at all levels including leading national institutions of government or the party,” said Meeko, welcoming the promotion of Ntombela to the NWC.
“We really congratulate her on her appointment because she has proved that she is a dedicated and hardworking cadre.

“She is certainly going to use her time in the NWC to among other things advance the interests of the poor.”

Ntombela said her appointment to the NWC was a result of the collective effort of the ANC leadership and members in the province.

She said she will do her best in the NWC because she did not want to let down her comrades who have shown so much trust in her by giving her the privilege to serve on the committee.

“This is an honour. It is a big task with huge responsibilities but I hope to live up to the challenge,” said Ntombela, who fills in the vacancy created in the NWC when former member Sisi Mabe died.
Mabe, who passed on last November, was also from the Free State where she was speaker of the provincial legislature.

The functions of the NWC include implementing the decisions of the NEC, the party’s highest decision-making body outside national conference.

The NWC, which is appointed by the NEC, is also tasked with ensuring that ANC structures from province to branch carry out the decisions of the party.
